Sex-chromosome variability in Zygodontomys lasiurus (Rodentia, Cricetidae).

چکیده
Specimens of Zygodontomys lasiurus have been collected in different regions of Brazil such as the State of Sao Paulo (Yonenaga 1972, 1975), Amazon region (Bar roso and Barros 1978), and the State of Pernambuco, in the Northeast region (Maia and Langguth, in press). The basic karyotype (2n=34) includes 32 autosomes consisting of 15 acrocentric pairs and one small metacentric pair. The X chromo -some is a medium sized acrocentric morphologically undistinguishable from the autosomes of equal size, and the Y is a small submetacentric. Some female spe cimens from Sao Paulo had slightly different karyotype having heteromorphic sex chromosome pair (Yonenaga 1972, 1975). One of the X chromosomes presented a subterminal centromere while the other had 1/3 of the length of the first probably due to a gross deletion in the long arm. A polymorphism (2n=34, 33) due to a centric fusion between autosomes was also found in specimens from Pernambuco (Maia and Langguth 1981). This paper presents further data on the sex chromosomes in Z. lasiurus from the State of Sao Paulo. The G and C-banding patterns were studied and the silver stained nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) were detected in the karyotype.

Karyological geographic variation of Oligoryzomys nigripes Olfers, 1818 (Rodentia, Cricetidae) from Brazil
The karyotypes of 85 specimens of Oligoryzomys nigripes (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) collected in the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest of seven states of Brazil were analyzed. Eighty four specimens presented a karyotype with 2n = 62 and one individual had 2n = 61 due to a monosomy of the X chromosome. High levels of intraand inter-population karyotypic variability, due to sex chromosomes heteromorphism...
متن کاملComparative chromosome maps of neotropical rodents Necromys lasiurus and Thaptomys nigrita (Cricetidae) established by ZOO-FISH.
This work presents chromosome homology maps between Mus musculus (MMU) and 2 South American rodent species from the Cricetidae group: Necromys lasiurus (NLA, 2n = 34) and Thaptomys nigrita (TNI, 2n = 52), established by ZOO-FISH using mouse chromosome-specific painting probes. Extending previous molecular cytogenetic studies in Neotropical rodents, the purpose of this work was to delineate evol...
متن کاملDivergence in Zygodontomys (rodentia: Sigmodontinae) and distribution of amazonian savannas.
Northern South America presents a diverse array of nonforest or savanna-like ecosystems that are patchily distributed. The distribution of these open habitats has been quite dynamic during Quaternary glacial-interglacial cycles; yet, the relevance of climatically driven vicariance events to the diversification of nonforest Amazonian vertebrates remains poorly known. We analyzed karyologic and m...
متن کاملMorphometric analysis of the placenta in the New World mouse Necromys lasiurus (Rodentia, Cricetidae): a comparison of placental development in cricetids and murids
BACKGROUND Stereology is an established method to extrapolate three-dimensional quantities from two-dimensional images. It was applied to placentation in the mouse, but not yet for other rodents. Herein, we provide the first study on quantitative placental development in a sigmodontine rodent species with relatively similar gestational time. Placental structure was also compared to the mouse, i...
متن کاملChromosomal Evolution in Mole Voles Ellobius (Cricetidae, Rodentia): Bizarre Sex Chromosomes, Variable Autosomes and Meiosis
This study reports on extensive experimental material covering more than 30 years of studying the genetics of mole voles. Sex chromosomes of Ellobius demonstrate an extraordinary case of mammalian sex chromosomes evolution. Five species of mole voles own three types of sex chromosomes; typical for placentals: XY♂/XX♀; and atypical X0♂/X0♀; or XX♂/XX♀. Mechanisms of sex determination in all Ello...
